PLAGUE Species Concept Art

Description

First off, sorry for the crazy writing. My tablet was tweaking out on me. -3-;;;

One of the "humanoid" species to be found in the PLAGUE Universe. :meow: This species is an original one of my own creation. Let me make this clear: This is not a furry, anthro, or "neko" but an actual race. ^^; I just haven't come up with a name for them yet (If you have any suggestions, i'm always open) Critiques are open, if you have any suggestions or comments on how i can change the design or anatomy, or just my general technique. X3 I used my lazy coloring style for this.

The character shown is named Selkie. If you're familiar with mythology, you'll know that a selkie is a person that can turn into a seal by wearing sealskin. not a.... cat-humanoid-thing like this. XD I actually just had the idea for two concept characters, one being named Selkie because i like that name. So i go to draw her as a human, (even though i hadn't planned on her species being human, i just wanted to practice) and for some reason i drew her with cat ears.... Then this and that happened and BAM new PLAGUE species. I actually liked this design so much, i might keep Selkie as this species instead. oWo funny how some things work out.

so yeah, now i'm just going to answer some questions i think people might ask. :)

Why did you give it eyebrow whiskers, but not whiskers on the nose?
Well, this aspect is sort of based off of human functions, only with feline body parts..... Think of it like this, you have eyebrows for almost you whole life, but you only start growing facial hair when you get older. So it's based on that. Whiskers, in this species, are more like facial hair than means of balance and sensory.

Why aren't the ears on the top of the head, like an actual cat?
Again, that's based on human body functions. Since the basic structure of their body is humanoid, why not their ears too? I never got why whenever people drew "cat-people" or whatever, the ears were stuck to the top of the head like they were super-glued on... It didn't seem very functional.

What about their fur?
The fur on their main body is EXTREMELY short. Think of seal fur short. Their tail fur can vary in lengths (as well as their tail length itself), like in different breeds of cats. Their fur is usually neutral colors, like regular cat fur. Their hair is normal human hair colors. You won't see a purple one with rainbow hair, i can promise you.... unless they dye themselves that color.

Okay... What's with their clothes?
Uhm.. How do I explain this... This is more traditional daily wear. I mean, they wear modern type clothes. They aren't a completely primal species, although they can be. It depends on where they live. Sort of like some cultures today. There are people who still live by early traditions, but with modern twists, some who live completely traditionally, and some who live completely modernized.... That's like it is in this species.... In all truthfulness, here i just didn't want to draw modern clothes ^^;

Why are there 4 digits on her hand-paws, but 3 on her feet-paws?
*Scuttles off to check her cats* Yup. Cats have one more digit on their front paws than on their back paws (not counting dew claws or polydactyls), one being in a sort of "thumb" place. I... Know that cats actually have FIVE on the front and FOUR on the back, not four and three, but it just seemed..... better to me that they had one less digit on their hand-paws than humans.. just to show that their anatomy is slightly different.... Also..... I'm kinda lazy and drawing five digits is surprisingly harder than four. o3o OH and the species is digitigrade, that's why she's standing on her toes. :3 Funfact right there.

About how tall are they?
They're actually pretty short. I'd say even 5 feet would be a stretch for them. So, somewhere in the 4' _" range.

Okay, that's all i can think of, but if you have any questions, i'll happily answer them... Comments are also loved! :heart: I put a lot of thought into the species, especially considering it was created on a whim. Hope you like it.
